The last portrait was done about six months after the first two. I like them all. They are wildly better than any pencil drawing I did before 2014. I am happy that I was willing to take risks with a difficult angle in the middle drawing, and that I experimented with being messy but still getting semi-realistic looking shadows in the top drawing. Still, I feel that the bottom portrait does a better job of not getting overwhelmed by the slightly cartoonish vibe I like my works to have. I think it falls more in the category of realism even though it took less time and has far less pencil work.
Seeing them together, it’s amazing how much you’re growing as an artist.
